Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller both made their comebacks from injury as substitutes for Rangers, but the visitors to St Mirren Park could not find a goal.

The teams will meet again at Ibrox on Wednesday week.

Alan Gow marked his Hibernian debut with a superb solo goal as the Easter Road side cruised into the quarter-finals with a 5-1 victory over Montrose.

Substitute Gow found the net with two minutes left, with the match already well won.

Colin Nish scored twice in the first half while Derek Riordan and Abdessalam Benjelloun also got on the scoresheet, and Montrose midfielder Chris Hegarty had his moment of glory with a 25-yard consolation strike.

David Goodwillie's scrambled goal on the stroke of half-time was enough to send Dundee United through at the expense of Tayside rivals St Johnstone.

The 20-year-old reacted first as Craig Conway's corner bobbled around in the six-yard box and rattled his close-range shot in off the underside of the bar.

Liam Kelly scored his first two goals for Kilmarnock as Jimmy Calderwood's side beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle 3-0.

Conor Sammon put the SPL side ahead with a cool finish over goalkeeper Ryan Esson midway through the first half.

He then set up Kelly to net from the edge of the area seven minutes later, with the scorer doubling his tally just before the hour.

A leveller from Gary McDonald five minutes into stoppage time rescued Aberdeen as they drew 1-1 away to Raith Rovers.

A brilliant first-half volley from Raith midfielder Iain Williamson looked to have won the fifth-round tie at Stark's Park, but McDonald had the final say.

The most impressive win of the day came from Ross County who crushed Stirling Albion 9-0.

Garry Wood completed a hat-trick in the 90th minute, while Michael Gardyne scored twice and further goals came from Alex Keddie, Richard Brittain, Scott Morrison and Stuart Kettlewell.

Irn-Bru First Division leaders Dundee fought back from a goal down to beat Ayr 2-1 at Dens Park.

Tam McManus gave Ayr an early lead but Ben Hutchinson and Lee Griffiths scored for Dundee to turn the match around.
