Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat says the rescheduled game against Wellington Phoenix “seems illogical”.
It was announced two days ago the original Round 7 match in Wellington would take place on January 17 after it was cancelled due to the earthquakes in New Zealand.
Muscat had no issue with the reschedule and paid his respects, however, was bemused at the FFA’s decision to place the game four days before an away trip to Perth Glory.
“The reality is… and I don’t mean this in any disrespect whatsoever, the circumstances of the game being postponed we accept that and condolences go out to everyone in New Zealand,” Muscat said.
“But all of a sudden within the fixtures now we’ve been severely disadvantaged, so it’s a little bit hard to understand but we’ll have to do things and make decisions accordingly to go across there.
“There’s no direct flight to Perth, those things don’t obviously bear much weight in discussion, so it’s disappointing but that week’s going to be difficult for us.
“Seems illogical to me (as well), once they make a decision they make a decision.”
Despite the cards which were dealt, Muscat said should they come out with a win against both sides, the feeling would be better.
“There’s no greater satisfaction than going in that week and winning Wellington and then going to Perth and winning there,” he said.
“Doing it the hard way because no one else thinks you can, so that gives me some severe motivation at the moment.
“We’ve got enough staff here… the reality is simply is some players won’t be able to do it.
“(It’s) four days… it’s just a fact, from Wellington to Perth, but I’ll worry about it once I get all the information from them.”
Victory is set to play Western Sydney Wanderers tomorrow night.
