The Baggies visit Anfield tomorrow looking to build on their recent improvement in the Barclays Premier League.

An opening day 6-0 defeat to Chelsea was followed by a 1-0 home win over new signing Peter Odemwingie.

Former Chelsea player Di Matteo has also brought in Pablo Ibanez, Gabriel Tamas, Steven Reid, Somen Tchoyi and Marc-Antoine Fortune.

But he is not underestimating the task of facing Liverpool whose last Premier League outing was a 3-0 defeat at Manchester City.

Di Matteo said: "There's no good time to go to Anfield. They're a big club with fantastic players and we know we're going to be in for a challenging afternoon.

"It's a big club, with a great history and tradition and with quality players, there's so many there with international, Premier League and Champions League experience.

"I know Roy Hodgson very well actually, from when he was the national coach in Switzerland. Also, he was coaching in Italy. He's a very nice man.

"He had two fantastic seasons with Fulham. He did an amazing job there. If you look at his history and career he's had some very good clubs. He's always been quite successful."

Di Matteo declared himself pleased with his activity ahead of the transfer window closing on Tuesday.

He added: "I think we are in a better shape now, with a few more solutions and options.

"I don't think there's going to be much more activity."

Di Matteo also alluded to pairing new signings Fortune and Odemwingie.

He said: "I saw him (Fortune) last time he played for West Brom and I watched him as he was playing for Celtic so I know the player quite will.

"The fact that I will have players with different abilities will give me the possibility to change things during a game."
