“I knew the national team coach was always at the games and always was looking. I didn't take it to heart because I knew there were plenty of games coming up and time to impress,” Jedinak told au.fourfourtwo.com today.

The Coast midfield dynamo has been called up to the Socceroos for the friendly against Singapore on March 22 ahead of the China World Cup qualifier four days later.

Even though it's expected a large number of the China squad will be Euro-based, Jedinak has a chance to impress and will do what he's always done at Bluetongue.

“I'm going to go over there and go about my business as I would normally. If it's what the national team needs then I'm more than happy to give my services be it a little part or a big part.”

Since the losing A-League grand final in February, Jedinak has received plenty of personal kudos. First, winning player of the year at the Mariners. Then the Mariners' Members' player of the year.

The 23-year-old has also just signed a two year contract at Bluetongue. But it's the Socceroos that's getting him excited right now. “It came as a bit of a shock. I was ecstatic and just really looking forward to it. To get a national team call up in any sport is a great achievement.”

Jedinak last played for the green and gold in 2003 when he was part of a very strong Young Socceroo squad at the world youth championships.
