MELBOURNE Victory defender Daniel Mullen believes the return of key players will make a huge difference as his side attempts to return to winning ways against Wellington Phoenix on Sunday.
Victory travel to New Zealand for their final match of the season before the finals and will be keen to pick up all three points against Phoenix to ensure they finish in third place on the A-League table.
Their task of doing so will be made easier by the return of Marco Rojas, Archie Thompson and Mark Milligan from international duty and Mullen says this will help the club bounce back from their 3-2 loss to Perth last week.
"Having them back this week, coming into finals, will make a big difference," Mullen said today.
"If you take out them three players out of any team, not just the A-League but throughout the world, three class players like that it obviously would make a difference."
Mullen said Victory's performance against Perth was disappointing and that the players were keen to make amends in New Zealand against a Phoenix side still battling to avoid the wooden spoon.
"To put in a performance like that was, as the coach said, was disrespectful to them and to the club, so we're going to try and rectify that this week obviously," he said.
"It wasn't good enough, it wasn't good enough for the fans that come out and support us week in, week out.
"We're still working hard at training and in games trying to execute our plan, the way that we want to play.
"In the last few weeks, okay some games it hasn't come off, but we're looking forward to this game and we're just going to go out and do the same things."
Mullen said it was important to get all three points against Phoenix and find some winning form ahead of the finals.
"We are in third place now and it's up to us to lose it so we want to go out and get the three points to make sure that doesn't happen," he said.
"Coming into finals we want to have, not just a win, but a nice game where we dictate and do the things we want to do. If we can keep a clean sheet, if we can get some goals then that's going to important coming into finals," he said after training this afternoon.
"I'm confident, the boys are confident that we can get results and come next week when finals come, we're going to be in great condition to contest."
