THE A-League's match review panel has added to Sydney's woes with an additional week's ban for Mitchell Prentice.
Prentice was shown the red for his reckless tackle in last weekend's 3-2 defeat against Wellington Phoenix.
He was automatically suspended for his new club's opener against Melbourne Victory but that ban has now been extended to cover the following match against Central Coast Mariners as well.
Queensland Roar Craig Moore escaped any extension to his one week ban for his red card against the Mariners.
An FFA statement said: "The independent Match Review Panel of Football Federation Australia, comprised of Peter Tredinnick and Simon Micaleff, has determined the suspensions to apply to two players awarded a red card in the final round of the Pre-Season Cup competition last weekend.
"Mitchell Prentice (Sydney FC) has received the mandatory one match suspension, plus an additional one match suspension due to the reckless nature of the tackle and potential for harm to the opponent and the fact that, in the opinion of the independent Match Review Panel, it was unnecessary in that position. Prentice will be eligible to play in Round 3 of the Hyundai A-League.
"Craig Moore (Queensland Roar) has received the mandatory one match suspension. Moore will be eligible to play in Round 2 of the Hyundai A-League."
The new A-League season kicks-off on Friday 15 August with a 2008 Grand Final replay between Newcastle Jets and Central Coast Mariners at Energy Australia Stadium.
The other Round 1 matches are the blockbuster Sydney FC v Melbourne Victory match at Sydney Football Stadium on 16 August followed by Sunday matches between Wellington Phoenix and Queensland Roar at Westpac Stadium, and Adelaide United and Perth Glory at Hindmarsh Stadium.
