At a media launch for the event, Grant was paraded along with the 49 other candidates for the top gong including sports stars, TV personalities, teachers, media identities, farmers and politicians.

Noted for his “uncanny ability to make people laugh when he dances”  the A-League single told the mag his most romantic moment was organising “a picnic on the beach at sunset”.

He listed his greatest achievement as representing Australia at the FIFA U-20 World Cup while his most embarrassing moment was singing “Tik Tok” by Ke$ha on a Fox Sports A-League promotion.

Peeling back the layers like an onion he also reveals his secret – wearing glasses for reading.

The boy from the bush might not be used to this level of scrutiny but can expect plenty of good natured ribbing across social media.

Matildas great Sarah Walsh was one of the first to kick off the banter, posting a pic of the utility at the launch and tweeting: “Keeping this a secret @RhyanGrant !!?? Lets get voting peeps.”

Grant’s tweeted response: “… gunna cop it a bit I reckon”. And he could be right!

The 22-year-old told the Sydney FC website it was just a bit of a lark. After a disappointing season when they missed the playoffs the whole team could probably do with a good giggle.

“I’m just here to have a bit of fun and enjoy myself and have a bit of a laugh,” he said. “There are quite a few other candidates who are better looking really so I don’t think I’ve got much of a chance of winning it.

“I hope people do vote for me though, just so I don’t look out of place with the least number of votes!!”
