SOCCEROO Rhys Williams' 10-month stint on the sidelines with a pelvis injury is nearing an end after he got through a 45-minute run in a behind-closed-doors friendly for Middlesbrough.
Williams, who missed out on the final cut for the Socceroos 2010 World Cup squad due to the injury, has not played for Middlesbrough since April 24.
But the 22-year-old Perth-born youngster got through half a game last week against Sheffield United in a friendly and could soon be in the first-team frame.
Boro boss Tony Mowbray told the Middlesbrough Evening Gazette: "It was terrific to see Rhys back. He's getting closer all the time.
"Rhys looked like a fantastic athlete who cruises around the pitch. So it will be great to have him available in the near future."
Mowbray said Williams' return would be like a 'new signing' for Boro who are currently battling the drop in England's Championship sitting down in 20th.
