The Frenchman has just returned to fitness after missing most of pre-season with a knee injury, but Van Gaal has told him he will not just walk straight back into the side.

"I observe the training sessions and then decide what my team needs," he told Kicker magazine.

"For me, a big name does not count more than any other."

Van Gaal has revealed that he will give Ribery "maybe 20 minutes" of Saturday's clash with Werder Bremen, but only to see how he fits into his team given the lack of opportunities to test him in training.

"Franck is coming back now, but I have got to integrate him into my team first," added the Dutchman,

"He is still building up his strength."

Van Gaal has ruled out having to bring in any new signings, declaring his side's interest in Chelsea's Jose Bosingwa over.

He told Kicker that, despite his club's interest, Bosingwa "is not going to come".
