Perth Glory is looking to go one better in this weekend’s W-League Grand Final against Melbourne City at nib Stadium after losing 3-1 to Canberra United at the same venue in December 2014.
First season defenders Natasha Rigby and Arianna Romero were visibly excited and raring to go in Sunday’s championship decider.
The only meeting between the grand-finalists in the regular season was in Round 8 when the Glory won 3-2 away at AAMI Park. They overcame a one-goal deficit with Sam Kerr scoring a brace to win the game.
Sunday’s match kicks off at 4.30pm (AWST) and Rigby was not short of energy, life, and passion for the women’s game.

And with the introduction of women’s AFL, Fremantle Dockers’ inaugural game against Brisbane Lions starts on the same afternoon at 4.05pm (AWST), but the left-back said it was only good for female athletes.
“I think it’s great because it brings all the women into the spotlight which is fantastic and AFL is such a good game as well,” Rigby said.
“I think there’s a game this weekend as well so to have two awesome games on in one weekend for women is just an incredible thing, so super stoked for everyone.”
The squad anxiously watched Sunday night’s semi-final in separate places when City travelled to the nation’s capital to beat Canberra 1-0 in extra-time.
Had Canberra won, the Glory would have been travelling and Rigby was looking forward stepping onto nib Stadium.
“Everyone was biting their nails. It was an incredible game to watch but a bit scary at the end there in extra-time,” she said.
“When (Jess) Fishlock slotted that one away we were a bit like (excitedly) ‘yes’, but we’re stoked to be having a home Grand Final, it’s an incredible opportunity to have that advantage.”
City, who finished fourth, are playing to be the first club to win back-to-back championships after their record-breaking super season in 2015/16.
Sydney FC were the only club in history claim the championship from fourth place in 2013, defeating Melbourne Victory 3-2 at AAMI Park.
Mexican international Romero has started in all games for Glory this season and she said ther side were looking to play the grand final on their terms.

The centre-back said it was important to stop interim coach and midfielder Fishlock who she has seen in the American NWSL.
“It’s very exciting, again it was a big change for me. So far I’m very happy with my decision, I’ve learned a lot from our coaching staff and the players I’ve been playing with so overall a good experience,” Romero said.
“We try to play our own game first, we don’t like to play theirs because that’d be for them. For the most part we play our own game and we tighten up our defence as far as who we have to defend against.
“On their attacks - Fishlock is a playmaker so we have to make sure address in training what we should take away from that.
“We played them once before and we were lucky enough to get the win. Watching that film over again, watching this one, it’s just little things right now I think we have to focus on fixing our mistakes from the last game and addressing those before we look forward into looking at City.”
Referee Kate Jacewicz will officiate her eighth W-League Grand Final on Sunday.
