The former Manchester United and Lazio midfielder's contract with Estudiantes expires in June and River are hopeful of securing his signature for the upcoming Apertura.

Veron, though, is also attracting interest from San Lorenzo and Aguilar admitted River face competition for the veteran midfielder.

"We are always in contact with him because we are interested in his answer to a number of questions," he told Radio La Red.

"Some people from River Plate have talked to him. Now we'll have to wait to see how things pan out.

"Veron told us about the love he feels for Estudiantes and if he wants to move we might do something to attract him. It is true that Veron is said to be talking to (San Lorenzo director of marketing Marcelo) Tinelli, but he is also talking to River people."

Veron, who is currently training with Argentina ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia, returned to Argentina in 2006.

He left Europe for Estudiantes, the club for whom he made his professional debut in 1993.

He also played for Boca Juniors in his homeland in 1996 before furthering his career in Europe.
