Roar were certain to be runners-up when they trailed 2-0 deep into extra-time against Central Coast Mariners, but scored twice late before winning 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

“We've come back every time we've been challenged,” Postecoglou told Fox Sports after the game.

“This group never gives in. We've worked hard. I knew if we got one we could put some pressure on. Full credit to them.

“Whenever we needed something we found it and I think that's a sign of a champion team.”

Postecoglou added: “We've had an unbelievable and extraordinary season and I should've expected an extraordinary finish. I'm speechless. It's a fantastic effort by the boys.

“I think we've won a few people today. This is what you do it for."

The Brisbane boss also reserved praise for the defeated Mariners.

“I thought the Central Coast Mariners were magnificent tonight,” Postecoglou said. “They have been all year. They played their part in a final which will be talked about for a long time.”

Roar skipper Matt McKay said he was proud of his side who 'dug deep' to force the game to penalties.

“Today things weren't going our way. Ange and I told them, 15 minutes to go, we've scored two goals in 15 minutes before,” McKay said.

“They dug deep, it can't get any better than this.”

Penalty shootout hero Michael Theoklitos was also full of praise for the character Roar showed.

“Once again we showed great character. 2-0 down with 15 minutes to go and Matty McKay pulled us in and said 'boys there's 15 minutes to go, how many times have we scored two goals in the last 15 minutes?'," he said.

“You can never doubt this team, we just keep fighting back.”

Theoklitos added Sunday's Grand Final victory topped his two successes during his time at Melbourne Victory.

“It means a lot. I had great times at Melbourne Victory but the year we've had here will never be repeated,” he said.

Last-minute goalscorer Erik Paartalu admitted he thought the Mariners had won the game at 2-0 down.

“It was one of those games where we dominated for most of the game, but credit to Central Coast they took their chances and we didn't. To be honest I gave up hope thinking it's not our day today, but full credit to these boys for coming back from the death,” Paartalu said.

German midfield maestro Thomas Broich, who has played in the Bundesliga, said he was amazed by the crowd and atmosphere with over 50,000 fans packing out Suncorp Stadium.

“That was amazing. Such a good crowd. The game was unreal, really crazy,” Broich said. “This was quite the essence of football. This is what football is all about.”

Substitute Henrique was delighted to come off the bench to score to bring it back to 2-1 before converting the winning spotkick.

“I'm very happy,” Henrique said. “I can't believe this moment happened for me. I broke my arm at the start of the season and now I'm very happy.”
