Roar succumbed to a 3-2 loss at the hands of Newcastle last weekend with a number of players making their competitive debut for the club.

Despite the loss, coach Rado Vidosic said he was satisfied with the performance in round one and was hopeful the team could capitalise on home-ground advantage in the team's second hit-out.

"I think we played really well in Newcastle," he said. "Unfortunately we conceded some silly goals, but apart from that I was really happy with the way we played and that's something that I'll look to continue."

Vidosic said the trip to Newcastle was an eye opener for many of the players, as they come to grips with the demands of playing in the National Youth League.

"That trip is probably the hardest trip," he said. "You have to get up at 4am and play at about 2pm.

"Also for a few people it was the first game so there were a few butterflies flying in their bellies but I think now, with at least one game under their belts, they won't have any problems."

None of the Roar's senior squad will be available due to injuries and international commitments, giving Vidosic a chance to cast his eye over some more talented youngsters from the Queensland Academy of Sport.

Friday's match kicks off at 3pm at Goodwin Park (home of Brisbane Olympic), Cansdale St, Yeronga.

Tickets for the match - available at the gate - are $5 adults, $3 concessions/under-15s and free for Roar members.
