Rain lashed Spencer Park in the Brisbane suburb of Newmarket on Saturday, leaving large puddles on the surface, with 3pm kick-off initially delayed for 20 minutes.

The kick-off was pushed back a further 40 minutes, before the decision was eventually made to abandon the match, despite a healthy crowd in attendance.

Both clubs were knocked out of the FFA Cup in the Round of 32, meaning the abandonment is a setback to their A-League preparations.

Brisbane host Melbourne Victory in the opening fixture of the A-League season on Friday 7 October. The Mariners are away to Perth.

Brisbane aren't scheduled to play again for a fortnight against an NPL Queensland Under-23 Select side.

The Mariners are due to face Wellington Phoenix next Saturday at Knox Grammar.
