In front of a record 20,198  for this fixture Socceroo call-up Maclaren helped the homeside leap-frog City into second on the ladder.

Both sides started brightly but it was the hosts who took an early lead with Maclaren pouncing on a loose ball to net his second goal of the season.

City grew into the contest and enjoyed large spells of possession in the opening stanza but failed to seriously threaten a well-organised Brisbane defence.

The game became stretched in the second half as City chased an equaliser but it was the Roar who looked the more threatening on the counter with Maclaren wasting a number of chances to extend Roar's lead.

City continued to push in the final stages but a resolute Brisbane held firm to record a thoroughly deserved victory.
