As he begins life at a fourth A-League Men's club, Connor Chapman is ready to show the competition just how good a player he is.  That is the opinion of Brisbane Roar teammate Corey Brown.

Connor Chapman

  • Brisbane Roar have signed Connor Chapman to their A-League Men's side.
  • Chapman has spent the last  four years playing in Korea.
  • The former Olyroos and Joeys captain's A-League return was six months in the making.

Chapman, a former Melbourne City, Newcastle and Western United player, has joined the Roar on an 18-month contract taking in the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign and next season.

While the 27-year-old has made 64 A-League Men appearances in his career, arguably the best time of his career was a first stint in South Korea from 2017 to 2019 with Incheon United and Pohang Steelers.

Chapman's time at Pohang came to a bizarre end amid claims he'd been infected with a brain parasite in 2019 -- a diagnosis he labelled "crazy".

He returned to Australia where his struggles with fitness and energy were discovered to be the effect of a stomach parasite which was treated with an antibiotic regime.

But Chapman's career has stalled somewhat from that point, leaving Western just six-months into a two-year deal to return to Korea for underwhelming stints with Daejeon Citizen and FC Seoul.

Brown has known Chapman since the pair played together at under-17 level for Australia and he's firmly of the belief the ex-Olyroos centre-back is a fantastic signing for the Roar.

"He had early stints at Newcastle and City and he was always probably that youngster," Brown told AAP.

"Now he's a senior player... He's come back with a lot of pedigree so I expect a lot from him and I think he'll deliver."

The Roar head to Sydney for their clash with Wellington Phoenix on Wednesday at Leichhardt Oval.

Chapman won't travel for that game as he builds up his fitness.

After a 3-1 win over Macarthur FC at Moreton Daily Stadium last Sunday, Brown said the challenge for Warren Moon's men is building consistency as they aim to climb into the finals picture.

"Hopefully it's a stepping stone to a few more wins," Brown said.

"We've been a bit inconsistent.

"We get a win and then we drop back off ... we've got a quick turnaround on Wednesday so it's important that we back this one up."
