Borrello's goal haul was a record for an Australian player in the ACL - the final result the biggest win by an A-League team in the prestigious competition.

Roar now face off against Chinese Super League big spenders Shanghai Shenhua in China next week for a place in the group stage, as the A-League outfit looks to make a mark in their fourth ACL campaign.

With a heavy schedule of three games in six days, coach John Aloisi made seven changes to his matchday squad with a number of youngsters given a chance to shine.

History-makers Global became the first Philippines side to record an ACL win, beating Singapore club Tampines Rovers last week in the first preliminary round of qualifiers.

And while they started brightly, Roar soon had a grip on the match - Borrello slotting home three goals within the first half-hour (12', 26, 30').

Manuel Arana added another (37') - his first for Roar -  to make it 4-0 going into the break before bringing up his brace (65'). Borrello completing the rout (80').

Global, who are between seasons, started the second stanza with purpose and showed plenty of heart, but lacked the legs to see out the half. Although, they finished with a late flurry, Roar goalkeeper Jamie forced into a late save.

Meanwhile it was a tough night for young Roar attacker Joey Katebian who was subbed on 34 minutes after an ugly collision with Global goalkeeper Patrick Deyto. The 21-year-old emerged later with his left arm in a sling and bruising to his face, shoulder and ribs.
