The Dutchman raised his hands at Muller, reaching out to grab him by the throat after taking exception to some of his team-mates mannerisms during the match.

But speaking on Bavarian television last night, Robben said he regretted his actions.

"That was not clever of me," he said. "That happens sometimes, but I should not have done it on the pitch.

"It looks aggressive and that is not good.

"Thomas was probably taken by surprise. I am an emotional player, but I have got to be able to control myself. We are role models."

Robben said afterwards that Muller had annoyed him during the game by gesticulating towards him, particularly after one of his free-kicks came to nothing.

However, the pair settled their dispute afterwards.

"I spoke to Thomas after the game and again on Sunday and the issue has been resolved," Robben added.

"We are friends again and did not need many words to clear the air."
