His standing at Spurs has looked increasingly fragile in the last few days, and reserve goalkeeper Radek Cerny has admitted he expects the club to recruit a fresh face between the sticks.

Robinson was dropped for the midweek Carling Cup clash against Arsenal after a series of blunders resulted in head coach Juande Ramos losing confidence in the 28-year-old.

"I know that the club are looking for a new goalkeeper and every day new names appear," said Cerny, Robinson's replacement for the 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium.

Cerny himself feels he is in the last stages of his time at White Hart Lane and believes he could be part of Ramos' shake-up that has seen Hossam Ghaly and Phil Ifil depart.

Jermain Defoe has been told he can leave if he wants, while Pascal Chimbonda has been surprised by Spurs looking at Rangers' Alan Hutton and buying Chris Gunter from Cardiff. Cerny is anticipating this being his final season at Spurs.

"In my experience, if a club do not extend your contract six months before it expires they are not interested," Cerny told www.idnes.cz.

"At the end of the season I will probably leave and now every match I play is good for me because I have a chance to show myself earn a place somewhere else."

Whether there is a way back for Robinson will become clearer when Ramos picks his side to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

Ramos dropped Younes Kaboul earlier in the campaign and took just one out and out centre-back to Anderlecht for a UEFA Cup tie, leaving at home the summer signing from Auxerre.

Kaboul was back in the starting XI for the next game and has looked less prone to errors since. Only an ankle complaint as well as Ledley King and Michael Dawson returning from injury have kept him out recently.

Robinson's case is slightly different as he is an established member of the squad and was England's first-choice goalkeeper until the final game of Steve McClaren's reign.

His long-term future was called into question after Spurs were reported to be looking at other stoppers, with Ajax's Maarten Stekelenburg the latest to be linked with a move.

Ramos had always backed Robinson publicly until Wednesday evening when Cerny was preferred.

Elsewhere in the squad, Spurs are aware of comments from Sevilla striker Fredi Kanoute suggesting he would be open to a return to England. Interest in Lyon's Fred, though, is not thought to be serious at this stage.

They have been linked with making a move for Middlesbrough's Stewart Downing and although there has been no contact between the clubs, it is thought that the attraction of moving to London could be a factor if a bid is made.
