Robson, who was last involved in the Barclays Premier League at Newcastle three years ago, fears too much money is being spent by clubs on players from abroad.

The 74-year-old told 'The Alan Brazil Breakfast Show' on talkSPORT Radio: "We're bringing in a lot of foreign players and most of the money that is generated in England is actually going out of the country, which concerns me a little bit

"But I'm afraid that's the way the game has gone. It's global football now, and there will be clubs who will not have an English player or a British player even in their ranks."

One English player to have gone the opposite way and find success abroad is David Beckham, but Robson now fears for his career following his switch from Real Madrid to Los Angeles Galaxy.

Robson said: "The standard of football (in America) is more or less our third division, maybe our conference league.

"I think it will be very difficult for David to play at that level and fly the Atlantic every now and again and come from that grade of football and play international football for England."

Robson himself found great success abroad in managing PSV Eindhoven, Sporting Lisbon, Porto and Barcelona.

England and Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has been linked continually with Barcelona and Robson thinks such a switch would benefit his career.

He said: "A terrific move, he's in good form, he's at a good age, I'm sure that he would be very successful in Barcelona and it would be a terrific move for him."

Lampard and his England team-mates still have work to do to qualify for Euro 2008 but Robson is confident they will achieve it despite injuries to key pair Wayne Rooney and John Terry.

Robson said: "There should be sufficient great players and good players in the country to get the results against those countries for us to qualify, and I'm very confident that we will."
