The Rock, paper, scissors saga comes to a close
David McNamara has withdrawn his appeal against the Football Association, after initially being suspended for using a game of rock, paper, scissors prior to a Women's Super League game.
The referee decided to use the method in a fixture between Manchester City and Reading after accidentally leaving his pre-match coin in the dressing room.
McNamara received a three-week suspension from the FA for 'not acting in the best interests of the game'.
Grassroots referees across the UK came out in support of McNamara as they used the rock, paper, scissors method prior to fixtures.
Referee suspended for rock, paper, scissors backed by fellow referees
McNamara initially decided to appeal the ban after hearing the response from fellow referees.
However, Ref Support UK, a charity that came out in support of McNamara released a tweet revealing the official has dropped his appeal.
We can confirm that Dave McNamara has retracted his appeal of the 21 day Suspension issued to him by The FA Referees Department. This will not change our opinion that the 21 day suspension was disproportionate for an isolated event.
