A number of players have already arrived at Anfield ahead of the new campaign, including Simon Mignolet, Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto and Kolo Toure.

Liverpool have also been linked with the likes of Christian Eriksen and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, with Rodgers admitting that an attacking central midfielder is high on his list of priorities.

"Certainly another attacking player will really benefit us and probably another defender," he told the club's official website.

"We'll see how it develops over the course of the next few months."

Toure is the only defender to have joined the club since the departure of the long-serving Jamie Carragher last season.

Rodgers said that the Ivory Coast international is the ideal replacement for Carragher due to his experience and know-how.

"Losing someone like Jamie Carragher was going to leave a massive hole for us in terms of his experience," he explained.

"Kolo's experience is going to be really important for us - but not just that. He's someone with a winning mentality.

"There weren't too many available who were better than Kolo Toure. He's played with big clubs, he understands what a winning mentality is about. He's a good man as well - he knows what the culture is like at a big club."
