Liverpool asked Swansea on Friday for permission to speak to Rodgers about replacing former manager Kenny Dalglish.

But in a statement released on Swansea's website, the Welsh club announced Rodgers had rejected Liverpool's request.

"The club is pleased to confirm that Brendan has declined the current opportunity to speak to the Anfield club about the vacant position," the statement read.

"The Swansea manager is currently working hard to strengthen their squad in readiness for the new Barclays Premier League campaign."

Liverpool have reportedly compiled a list of as many as 12 candidates to replace Dalglish and have already approached Wigan manager Roberto Martinez.
