With the ink barely dry on the new contract, Rogic finally got a recall to the Celtic starting XI and repaid Brendan Rodgers by scoring two and turning the provider for another.

The Australian opened the scoring with a class goal in the 20th minute after snatching the ball out of mid-air from a deft chip from Callum McGregor before turning and blasting the ball home on the half-volley.

The creative midfielder looked menacing throughout and would have scored a few more if it wasn’t for Motherwell keeper Craig Samson making a succession of double saves.

Celtic continued to fire home with a brace from new signing Moussa Dembele and a goal from Scott Sinclar who cut in from the left and curled the ball into the far right after a cool pass from Rogic.

Rogic made it five and completed the rout in the 76th minute after pouncing on the rebound from a powerful James Forrest shot.

Motherwell boss Mark McGhee singled out Rogic’s performance as a deciding factor in his side’s loss as the Steelmen simply couldn’t keep up with his energy as the Bhoys moved on to the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup.
