Melbourne Victory has defeated Sydney FC 3-1 in a pre-season friendly behind closed doors at AAMI Park.
Marco Rojas looked agile in his first game for Victory, bagging a goal in the first half with James Troisi and Mitch Austin also impressing for Melbourne.
Rojas made an instant impact when his sizzling through ball found Mitch Austin in the box who was brought down by Rhyan Grant.
The penalty was converted by Besart Berisha after 16 minutes.
It took just three minutes for Sydney to find the equaliser with Brandon O’Neill’s shot from outside the box beating Lawrence Thomas.
In the final 10 minutes of the half David Carney teed up Alex Brosque in the box, but his shot was tame.
But it opened up a counter attack with Troisi’s ball finding Rojas who put Victory back in front.
Troisi nearly made it a two-goal lead at the brink of half-time with a long range shot denied by Vedran Janjetovic.
Sydney almost levelled the scoring in the 48th when Matt Simon looked through before Thomas saved the shot.
Austin continued his stunning form when George Howard’s low cross found the winger to make it 3-1 in the 69th which is where the scores remained.
An FFA Cup game also awaits Victory when they travel to Bentleigh in four weeks.
