Moore has had limited opportunities to start under manager Tony Mowbray since making the move from Aston Villa nearly 12 months ago - first on loan and then in a £3.5million permanent switch.

But Ishmael Miller's cruciate ligament injury handed the former England Under-21 player his chance and he responded by scoring the opening goal in last weekend's 2-1 win over Manchester City.

Now Moore is hoping for the chance on Boxing Day to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge - a ground where three years ago he won £10,000 off a national newspaper after becoming the first player to score against the Blues that season.

Bednar told PA Sport: "Everyone was pleased when Luke scored on Sunday because he does work hard in training and he scores some great goals in training but he just needed to play more games in a row.

"I really think in the future he will score more goals for West Brom because he is a good quality player. He just needed a break like everyone else at the moment. I was really glad for him.

"It was a good finish. He did really well. Sometimes when you have time like he had in that particular situation, you just do the first thing that is in your mind but that finish showed the quality of Luke. It was a good finish.

"It will give a big lift to his confidence to get that first goal."

Mowbray has often played one main striker this season - either Miller or Bednar - with Jonathan Greening being pushed forward from midfield in support in recent games.

But Bednar is hoping the Baggies chief will persevere with the 4-4-2 formation as they look to take advantage of the absence of suspended Chelsea skipper John Terry

Bednar said: "I hope we will play the next game together because I think we were dangerous together against Manchester City.

"Could we could form a good partnership? I think so but then I think all the good players can play together.

"If you are a good player, you have got to understand each other on the pitch and I can play with Luke and he can play with me. We know that.

"I think we will be glad if we can play together."

Bednar scored his fifth goal of the campaign, with the late winner against Mark Hughes' side, and he believes he is in the best form of his career.

It is his first taste of Barclays Premier League football after his move from Hearts to Albion became permanent in the summer.

He said: "Is the best form I have been in? I think so. I had a long injury and this season was crucial in my career. Now I am staying fit.

"It is my first year at this level. This has been one of the biggest tests. This is what I always wanted. I believed that I could do it. I am just proving to myself that I can."

Mowbray is hoping Bednar's late winner against City - their first in 11 games - will act as a platform for a revival during the second half of the campaign.

He said: "We were never as bad as people made out when we didn't win games.

"We have had a spell this season where we won three out of four games. We know we are a decent team, we aren't a bad team in this league we can have a run where we put some results together."

Greening is available after recovering from double vision but play-maker Borja Valero is again doubtful because of a bout of flu.
