Brazilian legend Romario has made another U-turn concerning his future after revealing he is set to quit Vasco da Gama to join Rio rivals Flamengo.
The 42-year-old striker, who is serving four-month playing ban for testing positive for finasteride in December, resigned as Vasco coach last Wednesday after falling out with club president Eurico Miranda over team selection.
However, two days later he insisted that his relationship with the club remained on solid ground and that he wanted to retire as a player with the club.
The 1994 World Cup winner also revealed he had been offered a contract with Flamengo but rejected it because of his ties to Vasco.
However, just over 24 hours after shunning that approach, Romario has revealed he would in fact consider a move to Flamengo.
"Yesterday, the chances of me signing for Flamengo were very small, but now they have grown enough to change my mind," he said.
"President Kleber (Leite) made me a very good offer for my future."
Romario added that the offer of a coaching position when he retires as a player is a key factor.
"In the three years I played for Vasco nobody proposed anything similar to me," he said.
"But I don't want to speak bad about Vasco. They don't have a project for me."
Romario has a contract with Vasco until June, but indicated he would try to terminate that deal to allow him to play the Taca Rio (the second stage of the Rio de Janeiro state tournament) and the Copa Libertadores.
"I want to play three or four games more before retirement," he added.
Romario is set to have an appeal against his ban for taking finasteride, a prohibited substance which the player attributed to a hair-loss treatment, heard by the Brazilian Supreme Court of Sport Justice on Thursday.
