The AC Milan playmaker will miss both the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers and the Confederations Cup after Dunga chose not to include him in his squad announced today.

Ronaldinho has struggled for a starting spot under Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti this season and Dunga admits his lack of match sharpness contributed to his absence from the 23-man selection.

"We are totally confident over Ronaldinho's behaviour and his place in the national team," said Dunga.

"He is a special player but he is not enjoying a good spell.

"Ronaldinho needs to be playing. When he is always a substitute, his creativity and enthusiasm decrease.

"We hope next season he can play more for Milan."

Ronaldinho was not the only big-name casualty when Dunga announced his squad, with former Milan and Real Madrid striker Ronaldo also overlooked.

The three-time world player of the year misses out despite battling back from a career-threatening knee injury to emerge as one of Corinthians' outstanding players in recent months.

The Selecao face Uruguay and Paraguay, on June 6 and 10, in the South American World Cup Qualifying Zone before flying to South Africa to compete in the Confederations Cup from June 14 to 28.
