The former FIFA World Player of the Year, now 32, has recovered from a third knee operation to play for Corinthians this season after suffering a serious knee injury while with AC Milan last year.

Although he initially held out hope of a European deal, Ronaldo returned home for treatment and he told Gazzetta dello Sport he is unlikely to come back.

"I think that chapter in my career and in my life has ended," he said.

"It has been a great adventure but logic tells me, and my heart tells me, it is over.

"I will end my career in Brazil and the most natural thing is for that to happen at Corinthians. Here, I feel really good."

Ronaldo, the all-time leading World Cup scorer with 15 goals, had been linked with a move to the Premier League before signing a one-year contract with Corinthians late last year.

The former Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan striker made his debut for Corinthians on March 4, and scored his first goal a week later in a 2-1 win over Sao Caetano in the state championship.

"If I am able to score 30 goals, I think Corinthians could win something," said Ronaldo. "The most important thing in any case is to gain access to the Copa Libertadores."
