Carney's deal went through just moments before the 6pm (3am Sydney time) deadline and both the club and player were sweating overnight on approval by the FA.

Just as the Spurs signing og Rafael van der Vaert took hours to be approved, so too did the Carney deal, with Blackpool having to prove the contracts were all signed and delivered before the cut-off.

But overnight the deal was sanctioned by the FA and the club could finally confirm their new Australian signing.

Carney has joined the newly promoted side in England's north-west for an undisclosed fee on a one year deal with an option for a second.

"It has been a busy 24 hours but I am delighted it is done now and I am looking forward to getting out there playing," Carney told the club's website

"The way Blackpool play suits me and I am looking forward to meeting the lads and getting started."

Club secretary Matt Williams added: "We got the e-mails back from FC Twente just before six so it was a mad dash to get them printed off and faxed over to the FA and Premier League.

"Fortunately the confirmation came through on Wednesday morning and I was delighted to tell the Gaffer and Carns that the move had been given the green light."
