MANCHESTER United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has played down fears over the fitness of his star striker, Wayne Rooney.
The 24-year-old failed to fire during England's ill-fated World Cup campaign, sparking suggestions he may have been carrying an injury.
But Ferguson is quoted in The Mail on Sunday as saying: "There is nothing wrong with the lad or his fitness.
"He's relaxing on holiday in Barbados and I expect him to come back refreshed for the new season."
