Rooney took his tally to seven in the last four appearances for the Three Lions to show few signs of letting last week's red card at Fulham play on his mind.

"I am enjoying it," Rooney declared. "The team is progressing really well. Hopefully we can keep winning and I keep scoring.

"Steve [Gerrard] and me changed positions a lot and it seemed to work.

"I am getting on the ball and getting in space. We played quite well together.

"That is one thing the manager wanted from us today, to put the work we have done in training and put it on the pitch.

"At times, I think we did that."

Rooney, though, admitted injuries to strikers Emile Heskey, Peter Crouch and Carlton Cole took the gloss off the win.

Heskey opened the scoring before limping off - and his two replacements, Cole and Crouch, also had to be substituted after picking up problems.

Cole has been ruled out with a thigh problem, while Heskey will go for a scan on a suspected Achilles issue, but Crouch (hip) is expected to be fit for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier with Ukraine.

"Overall, it was a good performance and a well-deserved win," said Rooney.

"It is a bit sad we got the injuries early on, but it was a good build-up for us."

Rooney hailed the impact of David Beckham, who came off the bench in the second half to break Bobby Moore's outfield appearance record for England with a 109th cap.

"David has set me up for a few goals, so I have to thank him for that," said Rooney.

"It is a great achievement. All of the players are really pleased for him.

"You could see how much he is loved by everybody, the players and the fans."
