Wayne Rooney is confident Carlos Tevez will go on to become a Manchester United superstar.
The Argentina striker flew into Manchester this evening, ahead of a planned medical this week.
Provided there are no unforeseen problems, only the legal wrangle over his ownership and West Ham's refusal to sanction medical tests will stand in the way of him becoming the latest big-name addition to Sir Alex Ferguson's squad.
While Tevez's quality is beyond doubt, some have questioned whether he would be effective in the same strikeforce as Rooney, with many pundits believing the pair are just too similar.
But, in an interview with the newly-launched Japanese version of the Manchester United website, www.manutd.jp, Rooney expressed no such concerns.
"Playing with Carlos Tevez would be great," he said. "Hopefully things will get sorted soon.
"He did brilliantly for West Ham last season and I think he'll be a great signing for us."
With England team-mate Owen Hargreaves joining from Bayern Munich and the blossoming talent of Nani and Anderson also on board, Rooney believes the current depth of talent at United is the best since he completed his £27million switch from Everton in 2004.
And, as a youngster of just 21 himself, Rooney knows he has more to offer as well, despite hitting 23 goals for the Red Devils last term.
"I was pleased with my return last season and I want to continue doing my best," he said.
"I don't set myself targets but I'll certainly be looking to do even better than I did last season.
"I haven't got any bets with the manager but hopefully I can score more goals than last year and help us win a trophy.
"All the players are excited by the new arrivals. I know all about Owen Hargreaves from England, while I am sure Nani and Anderson will do well for us.
"This is definitely the strongest squad I have been involved at United. There are more players and better quality players as well. The competition for places next season will be huge.
"Everyone is going to have to be on top of their game and try their best to get into the team."
After ending a four-year title drought by clinching the Premier League at Chelsea's expense last term, some now feel Sir Alex Ferguson's focus will now drift back to the Champions League, where the United manager feels his side have badly underperformed over the past decade.
Last season's semi-final loss to AC Milan represented the third time Ferguson's team had exited the competition at that stage, although it was also the furthest Rooney has gone in Europe's number one club competition.
However, much as the three-goal second-leg hammering at the San Siro still rankles with the striker, he remains convinced retaining the title is United's number one priority.
"I would take any trophy at the start of the season but the Premier League is the competition you play in week in, week out and, for me, it is the most important," he said.
"Nevertheless, the Champions League is a massive tournament and I'd love to win it.
"The Milan away game still niggles because I know we can play a lot better than we did that night.
"It was particularly disappointing but hopefully we can do well again throughout the whole campaign, especially in the Champions League."
