Goals in either half from Wes Brown and Rooney allowed the Red Devils to win at a canter at rain-sodden Ewood Park.

And the man of the match, who now has three goals in as many games, told Setanta Sports: "We had a difficult start to the season, four hard away games out of the way, and we're still in a decent position, so we've got to take confidence from those games.

"I think it's a great result, for the last few years it's been a difficult place to come and the conditions were not the best.

"We had a job to do and played really well and deserved the win.

"We moved the ball well at times, were confident, and getting the goal in the first half made us pass a lot more freely, and we knew we would get chances in second half."

The striker looks in good shape heading into the international break.

He added: "Once you get the first goal of the season then you're confident, and fortunately enough I've taken my chances.

"I'm doing not much different from the start of the season. Taking chances - that's the only difference."

Of the ankle injury that threatened to rule him out of today's game, Rooney said: "It's been a bit weak for couple of weeks and I've just got to be careful."

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believed it was his team's most impressive display of the campaign so far.

"I think it was our best performance of the season in terms of passing, a really top performance," he said.

"It's always been a difficult place, they've always made it a battle and we've lost a couple of times, but today everyone was on song."

Blackburn manager Paul Ince was left to rue what he called a "disgraceful" decision that allowed United's first goal to stand, despite goalkeeper Jason Brown being floored by Nemanja Vidic as Brown headed home.

"Once we conceded the first goal, that shouldn't have been allowed, it was backs to the wall," he said.

"The referee or linesman's got to make a decision. That's a disgraceful one."
