THE Socceroos look destined to head into Monday's friendly against New Zealand at the MCG without first-choice trio Scott Chipperfield, Harry Kewell and Mark Schwarzer.
To see the Socceroos in training on Saturday...
Schwarzer injured his thumb during this week's training camp in Melbourne and while it is not to expected to threaten his World Cup prospects in any way, Pim Verbeek is unlikely to risk his No.1 choice in a friendly match.
The Fulham shot-stopper reportedly took little part in a training session on Saturday.
Adam Federici is set to come in for Australia in Monday's match for his first match for the senior team having played for Australia at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
David Carney will get his chance to push his World Cup credentials with veteran defender Chipperfield set to be rested for Monday's match after a busy finish to his club season with FC Basel.
Carney is considered the nominated back-up for Chipperfield, but after only a handful of appearances for club side FC Twente, needs game time to show Verbeek what form he is in.
Kewell was never considered for Monday's match as he bids to be fit for the World Cup after undergoing groin surgery earlier this year and only playing a few minutes for club side Galatasaray since.
