Portsmouth and Fulham, the two teams that had unsuccessfully been courting Mark Viduka met at Fratton Park where Viduka's former team mate Mark Schwarzer kept a clean sheet with Fulham winning 1-0.

Vinnie Grella sat on the bench for Blackburn's 2-0 loss to rich boys Manchester City while Brett Emerton is yet to make it onto the park for the Rovers as he recovers from his serious injury.

Heading up to Scotland, Scott McDonald was on the scoresheet for Celtic as they defeated Aberdeen 3-1. McDonald encircled the goal with early attempts, first shooting above the bar and then wide of the bar but just before half time he snared a failed clearance from the Aberdeen defence and scored Celtic's third.

Danny Invincibile was missing from Kilmarnock's squad but James Wesolowski played just about the full shift for Hamilton Academicals in their 3-0 loss to Kilmarnock while Trent McClenahan  is still out injured.
