At least two players, midfielder Dario Vidosic and goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic, complained that a member of the crowd at the Kuwait Sports Club Stadium was shining a laser device in their eyes in the first half of the 2-2 draw.

It is the second match in a row where the welfare of Australia players has been threatened by crowd behaviour. In the most recent Asian Cup qualifier against Oman in Muscat a firecracker was thrown onto the field.

Australian coach Pim Verbeek approached match officials about half an hour into the Kuwait match to notify them that the visiting side was being targeted by someone in the crowd.

"Dario Vidosic said that when he was taking corner kicks they were shining the laser on his face. I mentioned it to the fourth official. I suppose things like this happen, we had fireworks (in Oman), it's part of the Middle East," he told FOX Sports after the game.

It wasn't the only complaint that Verbeek had in his time in Kuwait. He described the pitch as one of the worst he'd ever seen and there was no doubt the quality of the match was affected by the bumpy surface.

"The field was terrible. But both teams had the same problems," he said.

Australia led the match 2-0 inside the first five minutes, but were pegged back by the home side who scored twice late in the first half. Verbeek said 15 minutes of bad football had cost Australia but that a draw was a reasonable result.

"I think the last 15 minutes of the first half we lost control of the midfield, it was too easy for them to play to the ball over the top. We didn't do well defensively and we gave up two goals," he said.

"That's individual mistakes. That happens. We have to be honest, the Kuwaitis put a lot of pressure on us. It was not an easy field. Not easy circumstances with the atmosphere here, but we enjoyed the game.

"I think we did it very well in the second half. We had some chances and with a little bit more sharpness we could have won the game."

Australia need a point from their final match against Indonesia on March 3 in Brisbane to qualify for the 2011 Asian Cup.
