AC Milan have confirmed their interest in signing Brazil defender Thiago Silva from Fluminense.
With captain Paolo Maldini set to retire at the end of the season and Alessandro Nesta struggling with recurring back problems, the Rossoneri are eager to strengthen their defensive line.
Ronaldinho and Kaka have expressed their wish to see their international team-mate arrive at the San Siro and club vice-president Adriano Galliani said of Thiago: "He is a great defender.
"Our Brazilian players have spoken very well of him.
"However, we must clarify that we would only be able to sign him in the summer because we have our non-European slots already covered."
Thiago, who has had spells in Europe with Porto and Dynamo Moscow, is also a reported target for German clubs Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen.
