In what has been a year of cup shocks and unexpected exits, some unfamiliar names populate the remaining four berths in the competition.
Here, PA Sport assesses how each side reached Wembley:
WEST BROM
Third Round - Charlton
Hard to believe now, but West Brom were a penalty shootout away from exiting the competition at the first hurdle. Ishmael Miller levelled after Zheng Zhi put the Addicks ahead at The Valley. A last-minute Chris Dickson goal then made it 2-2 in the replay before Roman Bednar sealed a 4-3 win following spot kicks.
Fourth Round - Peterborough
A slightly more straightforward task for Tony Mowbray's men, who cruised to a 3-0 away win against their League Two opponents. Bednar, Robert Koren and Kevin Phillips hit the target
Fifth Round - Coventry
While the Sky Blues have had their troubles this season, a trip to the Ricoh Arena seemed far from the easiest of draws. But the Baggies made light of that to walk out 5-0 winners courtesy of Chris Brunt, Miller, Zoltan Gera and, once again, that man Bednar (two).
Quarter-final - Bristol Rovers
Another road trip and another handsome win. Rovers, who had excelled themselves in getting to the last eight were no match for their opponents, who were two up inside half an hour and ended the match 5-1 winners. Miller hit a hat-trick with Phillips and James Morrison chipping in.
PORTSMOUTH
Third Round - Ipswich
A classic banana-skin in waiting, Ipswich gave their opponents little or no breathing space at Portman Road. In an otherwise evenly-matched contest, a rare moment of joy for out-of-favour Pompey striker David Nugent handed Harry Redknapp's side a 1-0 win.
Fourth Round - Plymouth
A fifth-minute goal from Chris Clark meant Portsmouth had to come from behind to book their place in the last 16. A first goal at Fratton Park for transfer-window capture Lassana Diarra restored parity before Niko Kranjcar got in on the act to complete the turnaround.
Fifth Round - Preston
A third consecutive clash against Championship opposition and, once more, Pompey were able to justify their higher placing in the league structure. Such a result was achieved by the slenderest of margins at Deepdale, Darren Carter putting the ball past his own keeper for the only goal of the game.
Quarter-final - Manchester United
With the Red Devils seemingly set fair to take advantage of this season's giant-killing exploits, Portsmouth also had designs on becoming the one of the few remaining top-flight team in the competition. The late sending off of Tomasz Kuszczak left United with Rio Ferdinand in goal and Portsmouth with a penalty, which Sulley Muntari duly converted.
BARNSLEY
Third Round - Blackpool
The Tykes' cup adventure started in low-key circumstances, Michael Coulson edging them past the Seasiders in the 81st minute after Stephen Foster had equalised for the Oakwell side three minutes previously.
Fourth Round - Southend
Jamal Campbell-Ryce returned to his former club to score the only goal of the game for Simon Davey's men. But it was goalkeeper Heinz Muller who won the true plaudits, keeping out the League One side on a number of occasions in a dramatic denouement.
Fifth Round - Liverpool
Genuine FA Cup magic at Anfield. Liverpool were missing Fernando Torres and started with Steven Gerrard and Jose Reina on the bench, but this was far from a second string. A Dirk Kuyt goal did not succeed in knocking the stuffing out of the visitors, instead serving to set up a sensational win, with Foster equalising and Brian Howard winning it in injury-time.
Quarter-final - Chelsea
Not content with ousting one member of the heralded 'big four', Davey and co. soon had their sights on another. This time the combined brilliance of on-loan goalkeeper Luke Steele, the tireless running of goalscorer - and match-winner - Kayode Odejayi, and an unfaltering self-belief helped down a full-strength Chelsea at Oakwell.
CARDIFF
Third Round - Chasetown
The Bluebirds looked in danger of becoming the victims of an outrageous piece of giant-killing when the non-league minnows took an unlikely lead after 17 minutes. But order was soon restored as Peter Whittingham, Aaron Ramsey and Paul Parry made it 3-1.
Fourth Round - Hereford
Another visit to lower-ranked opposition as City travelled to Edgar Street. Kevin McNaughton set up the win before Steven Thompson sealed a 2-1 success from the penalty spot.
Fifth Round - Wolves
Championship opposition this time around, but a home draw ensured the Ninian Park faithful would be in support. Whittingham put the hosts ahead inside two minutes before Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, a cup finalist with Chelsea, sealed the 2-0 win.
Quarter-final - Middlesbrough
A first top-flight scalp for Dave Jones' side as Boro joined the glut of Premier League departures from the competition. Whittingham was again on target first up, making it 1-0 after nine minutes before former Wycombe defender Roger Johnson doubled the lead.
