The Mariners are undefeated after four rounds with one win and three draws. Roux moved to the Central Coast in the off-season and has been one of the club’s standouts, appearing in every match so for.

“There’s a big belief in the squad,” he said. “Obviously there’s a few key players missing from last season and I think we need more time to gel and hit what we believe is our best form.

"We’re not quite there yet but I feel each week we’re getting a bit better, and a bit better at playing together.

"We’re showing good character with coming back twice from 2-0 down to draw. I think there’s good character in the squad and we’ll only be getting better.”

Roux has been an impressive replacement for Pedj Bojic at rightback considering he had played in just one A-League game with Perth Glory last season before joining the Mariners. The 20-year old said he is enjoying his time at Bluetongue Stadium.

“It’s great. I feel like I’m improving every training session under Graham Arnold,” he said. “All the boys are really supportive and they help you out.

"I feel like I have hit a great run of form and I’m starting to establish myself in the starting XI, which was one of main goals coming in. Things have been working out so far.”

The Mariners fought back from 2-0 down to record an important 2-2 draw against Newcastle Jets in the F3 derby.

“That’s what Arnie said to us before, we’re playing for the fans,” Roux said. “It’s a big game for them and we knew Newcastle were going to come out and be very physical and really step their game up, and they did.

"Going 2-0 up we had to battle back. Like I said before, we showed our character and managed to get it back to 2-2. I think it was a fair result at the end of the day, it was a good game.”

Roux will miss the Mariners’ next game against Brisbane Roar at Bluetongue Stadium after the defender was called up for the All Whites squad for the World Cup play-off against Mexico along with teammate Michael McGlinchey.

“I’m a bit disappointed to miss that game, it’s a huge game,” he said. “Brisbane have shown that they’re a very good team this season.

"Me and Mikey [McGlinchey] are a bit disappointed to miss that game but what can you do.”
