Rukavytsya, who has started all five league games for Hertha this season, struck in the 23rd minute of Tuesday's clash with a lovely left-foot shot.

Hertha had gone ahead inside the first minute through Adrian Ramos, before the Australian struck to double their lead.

Rukavytsya collected Ramos' pass outside the box before cutting inside and unleashing a vicious left-foot strike which was too good for KSC stopper Kristian Nicht.

Moments later Rukavytsya, who provided the goal assist in Hertha's weekend draw with Union, whipped in a perfect set-piece for Peter Niemeyer to head in but Nicht produced a wonderful close-range save.

Rukavytsya would eventually be replaced on 67 minutes, but there were further goals in the second half from Valeri Domovchiyski and Raffael.

Elsewhere overnight, Socceroos stopper Mark Schwarzer played a full game as Fulham bowed out of the Carling Cup after a 2-0 loss to Stoke City.

Tim Cahill was absent again due to injury as Everton lost on penalties to Brentford after a 1-1 draw, while James Wesolowski's knee problem kept him out of Peterborough's 3-1 loss to Swansea.

In Scotland's Co-Insurance Cup, Ryan McGowan was not involved as Hearts were surprisingly knocked out 4-3 by Falkirk.

In Ireland's Premier Division, Aussie goalkeeper Chris O'Connor played a full game as ten-man Bohemians missed the chance to close within a point of the leaders after a 1-1 draw at Sligo Rovers.

In Romania's Cupa Romaniei, Spase Dilevski was not in the Universitatea Craiova squad which cruised past Minerul Lupeni 5-0.
