Ryan, 24, has only made appearances for Valencia this term, both back in August after a strong pre-season.

A knee injury curtailed his progress but under new Valencia boss Cesare Prandelli he’s fallen behind Diego Lopez and local deputy Jaume Domenech at times despite being fit again.

It’s a situation which has left Ryan frustrated and public about his intentions to explore a move away in January.

In the meantime, he’s retained his spot as Australia’s number one, where he’s earned most of his game-time this season.

“It’s always great in a situation like I’ve discovered (myself in) to get away and get back into the national team and associate with good friends in the group,” Ryan said.

“Thankfully the camps up until now this season I‘ve been able to get some game-time.

“Hopefully for my case I can put in some hard work and do enough to impress and get a starting spot tomorrow night.”

Ryan is likely to get the nod against Thailand in Tuesday night’s World Cup qualifier with his main competition, Mitchell Langerak, out injured.

The former Central Coast and Club Brugge goalkeeper admitted it’s been a tough season mentally at Valencia, preferring to focus on Australia.

“That’s been my main focus,” he said.

“In a situation like this where game-time isn’t regular and you’re not in the same flow as what I’ve come to get used in the past, I’ve just been trying to approach training and waiting for opportunities, whether it’s the national team or Valencia.

“Obviously with every game there’s things to improve on. I’ve been quite content with a couple of my actions where I’ve been able to help the team progress and affect the result.”

Play starts in Bangkok at 11pm AEDT on Tuesday night.
