Australia has been handed a tough draw in the 2017 tournament with matches against world champions Germany, South American champions Chile and the as yet undetermined winners of the African Cup of Nations.

The Socceroos will be in Group B and take on Germany in the opening match in Sochi on June 19 and then the African champions in Saint Petersburg on June 22. The final group game will be against Chile in Moscow on June 25.

Ryan and his team know Die Mannschaft well, having drawn with them 2-2 in a friendly in Kaiserslauten last year. Australia and La Roja met in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, with the Chileans recording a 3-1 victory.

"It's always exciting to represent your country and at the highest level against opposition of the highest quality," Ryan told FourFourTwo.

"It is a challenge myself and the team are looking forward to."

The Valencia goalkeeper said both teams have made some changes, but the Socceroos' past experience against both side should be helpful when then they meet again in Russia.

"Things and times change, I know Chile have changed their coach since our last encounter so I'm not too sure how much that will effect how they played last time against us to how they will play this time," Ryan said.

"And they both are two nations with a lot of depth. But the experience of the past two games against them can only help us and give us confidence that we have the right to believe we can beat them and hopefully if we do what we know we can as a team we can do that."

New Zealand have been drawn in Group A alongside Mexico, Portugal and Russia.

Australia last played in the Confderations Cup in 2005 in Germany and finished at the bottom of the competition. The Socceroos lost all three games against Tunisia, Germany and Argentina under Frank Farina.
