Socceroos defender Trent Sainsbury has left the Chinese Super League on loan with one of Switzerland’s biggest clubs.
Sainsbury joins Grasshopper Zurich - Switzerland's historically most successful club - on a short-term loan from Jiangsu Suning that will take him through to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Top flight European preparation is likely to be Sainsbury’s principle motivator for the move, where he’ll come up against the likes of Tomi Juric at Luzern.
The 26-year-old is still recovering from a groin injury, which means the move will be vital in returning to full fitness ahead of the tournament.

“Trent is currently still recovering from an operation late last year,” said Grasshopper’s sporting director Mathias Walther.
“We aim for a longer term cooperation with him. Trent convinces above all with his duel strength and a good game trigger.”
