Mooy, 20, joined the Saints in October after leaving English Premier League club Bolton Wanderers last European summer.

The Sydney-born youngster, who was part of the Socceroos training camp which assembled in Germany last month, has impressed St Mirren boss Danny Lennon.

Mooy's contract at St Mirren is due to expire at the end of the season after originally signing with the club on a one-year deal with the option of an extension.

Lennon told the Daily Record: “I've been delighted with Aaron. He had to win our supporters over and he's beginning to get there so we'd like to hang on to him.”

Mooy has made 16 appearances and scored one goal this season for the Buddies, who are 12 points clear of the drop zone with five games to play in the SPL.

The Australian provided the assist for St Mirren's goal in last weekend's 2-1 loss to Scottish giants Rangers.
