Adams will be looking to bring in one or two players next month to bolster his squad and has been told he will be allowed to decide if anyone leaves Fratton Park.

Adams was speaking after seeing his side earn a 1-1 draw with West Brom with a goal from Peter Crouch cancelling out Jonathan Greening's first-half effort for the home side.

He said: "In terms of the club being up for sale, we just wanted to be open and honest with everyone. There are a lot of football clubs up for sale.

"The owner said he can't give the time and energy needed. He said he doesn't have to sell it today and it is not going to be tomorrow. It will not be until the right people with the right values come along.

"Am I under pressure to sell players in January? He said nothing changes with that. He has been supportive. I couldn't ask for better people to work for and I am just not saying that.

"If a ridiculous offer comes in, I'll accept it to be honest but he has not said get rid of anyone. It will be my decision, that is the guarantee he has given me.

"In fact, I might add one or two players but that's it. I am not going to panic in January."

Adams was happy with a share of the spoils after Pompey did not return from their UEFA Cup clash away to Wolfsburg on Thursday until the following afternoon because of problems with their flight.

But Glen Johnson could have sealed victory for the visitors when he shot over in the closing stages with the goal at his mercy.

Adams added: "I am happy with a point after the first-half performance, but at the end of the game maybe it feels like two dropped. Glen Johnson had a fantastic chance.

"We were flat after the disappointment of the UEFA Cup and the journey coming back and preparation was not ideal.

"We gave ourselves a shake at half-time and they reacted positively and we performed much better in the second half. We kept the ball much better and made some good chances."

West Brom's disappointment at failing to move off the bottom of the table was compounded by the news striker Ishmael Miller will be out of action for a minimum of six weeks.

He suffered medial ligament damage after a second-half collision with Portsmouth goalkeeper David James.

Baggies manager Tony Mowbray said: "It is a bad injury. It is a blow to us because he is a threat to most teams he plays against with his size, his power and his strength which puts teams on the back foot.

"He is off to hospital to get a scan and an x-ray to see what the severity of the injury is but the doctors are saying it is medial ligament damage and experience says it will be a minimum of six weeks."

Mowbray felt his side paid the penalty for failing to gain more than Greening's goal during the opening 45 minutes when they were in command.

He said: "I enjoyed the first half. We deserved a second goal and yet it didn't come, which was always going to make the second half potentially more edgy for us.

"When you haven't won for so long, these games become a bit edgy. You don't want to hang on. Having said that, I thought we were pretty comfortable for most of the game.

"I can't remember Scott Carson having to make too many saves even when they were pressing. Johnson started bombing on from right-back and giving us a few problems.

"Ultimately I thought it was our inability to score a second goal when we were on top which cost us the three points today.

"Credit to them, it was a great strike from Crouch even though it took a little deflection. That is the Premier League. You can feel the quality they possess in the front areas."
