Kristian Rees was one of the unused subs at Telstra Dome as Archie Thompson and company ran rampant two years ago.

Rees, now preparing to join up with A-League new boys Gold Coast United next month, will never forget that day but believes his old club can go some way to easing the pain by proving the pundits and bookmakers wrong tomorrow.

He told au.fourfourtwo.com today: "Not many people are talking about Adelaide but I believe they can do it, especially if they can score first. I can see a 1-0 win (for the Reds).

"I think Jonas Salley has a really important part to play in the match. He breaks up play, he's strong and he reads the game well. He can disrupt the way Melbourne like to play.

"If he can perform like he did last week then that can really help Adelaide. Obviously the 6-0 game will still be talked about but a win for Adelaide tomorrow might help people forget a little bit. I'd be really happy to see Travis Dodd lift the trophy."

United boss Aurelio Vidmar has been a calmer figure this week while Melbourne's players have not been slow to talk about their confidence ahead of the clash.

Rees feels that might aid United's cause. He said: "The danger for Melbourne is that they become a bit too cocky before the game. Yes, they've had the wood over Adelaide this season but I think Adelaide will have learnt from those defeats.

"But Melbourne obviously have home advantage and it will definitely help them having 50,000 or so screaming them on.

"I'll be watching at home with a drink and just hoping Adelaide end the season with that trophy."
