Inspired by the Movember charity,  the 24-year-old Australian international and W-League star is raising money for male prostate cancer and depression (http://mosista.co/salship) with her own unique take on Movember.

FourFourTwo jumped on-board to sponsor Sally and as part of that commitment, it was our task to apply a “Mo” to her telegenic face this morning.

With publisher Andy Jackson in as creative director, editor Trevor Treharne proceeded to apply a “Dali-esque” look to the World Cup midfielder and Asian Cup champion, with a mo borrowed from Surreal artist Salvador Dali.

It drew some quizzical looks from the public when we joined Shipard as part of what she calls a “social experiment” to a café and a train ride across the Harbour Bridge and through Sydney's CBD.

“It‘s not flattering at all, obviously!" she told au.fourfourtwo.com. "People stare and I’m reminded of this moustache.

"Because I can’t see it I almost forget about it till all these eyes are looking thinking, ‘what the hell is that girl doing?"

Despite the silliness of the fake moustache image, Shipard says there’s a serious side to the charity.

“I think it’s worthwhile, that’s what I’m doing, raising awareness through things like the 442 guys sponsoring me. And if it can also put a smile on a face then that’s fun.

“As for playing football with a mo on my face that’s been fun too. It brings a smile to many faces and there have been many, many encounters – some quite embarrassing - and emotions felt.

“It’s been quite character building and I guess it’s become somewhat of a social experiment just to see how people react.”

After a conversation with friend Lucy Muir in WA last year, Shipard decided she’d cover the east coast of Australia and her friend the west coast.

And with Shipard’s growing profile along with other Matildas who are gaining a much deserved higher profile, the Canberra United midfielder says she’s happy to be able to put back into society, with a little bit of "help" from FourFourTwo.

“Considering Sal is the quintessential artist on the pitch, it seemed perfectly apt that we should choose Spanish artist Salvador Dali for her FourFourTwo Mo,” said FourFourTwo editor Trevor Treharne.

“Sal is a legend for her madcap Movember efforts and we’re delighted to be supporting her cause.”
