She may be respectful of her Grand Final opponents, but Perth captain Kerr, says the Glory head into today’s W-League decider believing they can beat Melbourne City.

Perth are yet to win the championship, while City will be looking to land their second in succession. With the Melbourne outfit boasting a line-up teeming with Matildas, the home side are considered underdogs.

Kerr is the sole Matilda in Perth’s squad, while City’s side features Lydia Williams, Teigen Allen, Steph Catley and Laura Alleway.

Nonetheless the 23-year-old believes Glory can pull off an upset.

“They are a great team but we don’t fear them,” Kerr said. “We have a lot of respect for them.

"I’m sure it will be a tight one and as every Grand Final is a close game. Hopefully we can hold them to nil and we score a few goals and get that win.

“We don’t have the Matildas and all that type of fire power but we have something special down at Glory. We have a real team culture - we work for one another.

"I love playing for the team and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I wouldn’t want to do it with any other team. It just goes to show if you are a really good team and stick together that you can beat anyone and we’ve had full confidence the whole year that we could be here on Grand Final day.”

When today’s Grand Final combatants faced each other in round eight of the regular season, Perth came away with a 3-2 away win.

Glory went on to finish 2nd on the league ladder and City 4th giving Perth the advantage of playing in their own backyard.

“It’s obviously massive,” she said. “It cuts out a lot of travel and the fact that you get to play in front of your family and friends it’s the cherry on top.

"It’s something that is special and not too many athletes get to do this. It’s something we are very proud of and really excited for.”

After defeating a Sydney FC squad packed with Matilda’s 5-1 in the Semi-Final, Kerr said the Glory head into today’s decider full of confidence.

“With the result that we had last week it upped our chances,” she said. “But they are the reigning champs and Perth Glory is kind of the underdog.

"Even when we were winning game after game this season no-one expected us to be here so I would say we go in as underdogs but we think it’s 50/50.

“No matter the result I’m going to look back on this season and be really proud of everything the girls have done and everything we have put into this team. It’s something the club can be proud of forever.

"We probably shouldn’t be here on paper compared to some of the other teams. We’ve done it and we’ve proved everyone wrong and I think we are a really good chance to win.”
