Matildas Lisa De Vanna and Caitlin Foord took to Twitter to vent their frustrations as many fans felt Kerr was hard-done-by.

Kerr was one of 10 players shortlisted for the award on Thursday but was snubbed as the final three candidates were announced tonight. The ceremony will be on Monday where all winners will be presented with their awards.

The final three candidates were Dutch international Lieke Martens, American star Carli Lloyd and Venezuelan Deyna Castellanos.

Kerr has received plaudits for her performances for club and country this year. She fell short of a W-League championship, she the claimed the Julie Dolan Medal after her 10 goals led Perth Glory to the grand final.

She then became the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) all-time leading scorer earlier this year with Sky Blue FC and levelled Kim Little’s record for most goals in a single NWSL season (16 goals).

Last month, she netted a first-half hat-trick for the Matildas against Japan at the Tournament of Nations and capped it off with a goal in Australia’s 6-1 demolition of Brazil.

And this week, Kerr scored a total of three goals in the two friendly wins against Brazil in New South Wales.

The Matildas are set to play two friendly matches against China in Melbourne and Geelong in November in preparation for the 2018 AFC Asian Cup.

Kerr will also return for the W-League towards the end of the year.

Kerr’s Sky Blue is set to play North Carolina Courage in the NWSL on Monday morning (AEST).
